Edgartown police have made an arrest in connection with a house break-in on Starbuck Neck Road near the Harbor View Hotel around 1:30 am Tuesday. Evidence at the scene included a great deal of blood found on the exterior of the house.

Police said they arrested Peter E. Ferrini, 25, of Edgartown on charges of breaking and entering at night time and malicious destruction of property.

The investigation began early Tuesday morning when police officers were dispatched to the residence for a burglar alarm “and discovered that the residence had sustained significant exterior damage,” police said in a Facebook post on the department’s website early Tuesday. “Also noted was a significant amount of blood on the exterior of and throughout the residence.”

“The suspect(s) should have fresh lacerations on hands or forearms,” police said. “The only thing that appears to be missing at this time is an unknown amount of liquor bottles. Based on the mess left behind and other observations at the house it appears that our suspect(s) was more than likely under the influence of alcohol.”

In an email to The Times late Tuesday, Lieut. Chris Dolby of the Edgartown Police said, “A vehicle was located on North Summer Street, a few blocks away from the house. The vehicle had a blown-out front tire, bloodstains on the outside of the driver’s door, and bloodstains on the interior of the driver’s door.”

Police identified the registered vehicle owner as Peter Ferrini.

At approximately 10 am, Edgartown Police learned that Mr. Ferrini was at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He had received stitches “and his clothing was covered in blood.” Mr. Ferrini refused to answer any questions, and requested a lawyer, according to Lieutenant Dolby.

Police arrested Mr. Ferrini and brought him to the Dukes County Jail.
