On Friday, January 29, from 4 to 7 pm, there will be an evening of live music, food, and an art exhibition and sale for the benefit of Doug Kent at the Chilmark Community Center. The exhibition and sale of Doug’s paintings will also extend to Saturday, January 30, from 11 am to 5 pm.
Mr. Kent is currently suffering from Uveitis as well as Charles Bonnet Syndrome and the proceeds will go towards his medical expenses. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to the Mass Eye Research Center in Waltham. Information and handouts on these rare conditions will be displayed at the Community Center for those who are interested in finding out more.

At the Friday reception, there will be live music from both Isaac Taylor and Willy Mason. Finger food will be served, and you’re welcome to bring some but keep in mind, there will be no silverware or plates provided.
A donation of $20 is suggested. There will be raffle tickets sold for $100. With your ticket purchase, you will receive a signed giclee print and will be in the running to win an original Doug Kent painting.
If you’re not familiar with Mr. Kent’s paintings, this review of his work, by Jack Schimmelman, appeared on the HuffPost website on August 11, 2013:
“His paintings have manifested a profound vision for more than 50 years, exemplified by simple, elegant line, grace and harmony. His subjects may be said to be quotidian, but they are unlike anything you have ever experienced. A cat, pig, wolf, goat emanating from the brush of Mr. Kent become myth. You may think you know the object that is being presented to you, but a steadier gaze informs you that a parallel universe is revealed.”
