Updated 11 am, Friday to reflect a change in the timing of the public viewing and awards ceremony due to the storm Friday.

The public is invited to attend the annual Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School science and engineering fair on Saturday, Feb. 6, in the cafeteria. The fair opens to the public for an hourlong viewing at noon. An awards presentation follows at 1 pm.

In a departure from previous years, projects will be judged on Friday to allow more time. Judges will include scientists from the Island and from off-Island communities.

This year’s event offers an impressive and interesting variety of projects, according to science teacher and fair organizer Jackie Hermann. Engineering projects are entered in addition to investigative projects in the categories of chemistry, biology, physics, earth science, and environmental science. Projects include solar-powered phone chargers, hydroponics (gardening without soil), and recycled polystyrene pavers.
