Oak Bluffs woman, Connecticut man win Sullivan 5K

Runners slogged through summer heat and humidity Saturday to raise money for the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and endorse the benefits of exercise as part of the 27th annual Sullivan 5K Run/Walk Road Race for Health and Fitness in Oak Bluffs.

Sarah Harris, 40, of Oak Bluffs was the overall winner in the women’s division with a time of 20.59.

Larsen Shuster, 17, of Simsbury, Conn., finished with a time of 18.39.

The men’s age-80-to-99 category featured a head-to-head race in the walk category between three Island men.

Leon Haley, 81, of Oak Bluffs finished first (50:42). Justin Wyner, 90, of Edgartown (51:44), and Samuel Feldman, 86, of Chilmark (51:44) finished in a tie for second.

In the walker’s division, Jill Zamarro, 42, of Shrewsbury finished first in 34:43 minutes in the women’s division. Marston Clough, 72, of Southborough finished in a time of 34:42.

Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and longtime Oak Bluffs seasonal resident Louis Sullivan co-founded the event with his wife, Ginger Sullivan.

The event started in Washington Park with a quarter-mile Kids Fun Run for children 10 and under, followed by the 5K main event.
